1955 Lt. César Fernando Basa

1st Lt. César Fernando Basa was a fighter pilot in the Philippine Air Force and the first Filipino casualty during World War II. Basa Air Base in Floridablanca, 60 miles from Manila, is named in his honor.

 

On December 12, 1955, the anniversary of Basa's death, the Bureau of Posts issued a set of airmail stamps commemorating Lt. Basa. The stamps were engraved by the English firm of Waterlow and Sons.
