1959 10th World Scout Jamboree


The Philippines hosted the 10th World Scout Jamboree at Mt. Makling, Laguna, southern Luzon, from July 17th to 26th 1959. Over 12,000 scouts from over forty countries attended the first World Jamboree in Asia.

Baden-Powell Week : February 22-28, 1959

Lord Baden-Powell, founder of the Boy Scouts was born on February 22, 1857. It was therefore fitting that February 22 to 28, 1959 was celebrated as Baden-Powell Week.

World Scout Jamboree Stamps


1. July 17, 1959 : Air Mail Semi Postals

A set of three air mail semi-postal stamps printed by the Government Printing Bureau of Japan was issued on July 17, 1959, the opening day of the Jamboree.

2. July 22, 1959 : Semi-Postals

A set of two semi-postal stamps printed on yellow tinted and white paper by the Government Printing Bureau of Japan was issued on July 22., 1959.

The semi-postal stamps were also issued in tete-beche format. The tete-beche stamps printed on white paper were sold at double face value.

3. July 26: Semi-Postal Souvenir Sheet

The Bureau of Posts issued a semi-postal souvenir sheet on July 26, 1959, the last day of the Jamboree. The souvenir sheet featuring each of the previously issued stamps had a face value of P2.70 but sold for P4.
