1952 Indo-Pacific Fisheries Council Meeting

The Indo-Pacific Fisheries Council (now the Asia-Pacific Fishery Commission) was formed in 1948 to increase food production through fisheries development. At its 4th meeting, held in Quezon City from October 23 to November 7, 1952, a symposium was held to appraise the socio-economic conditions of its member countries. The Council advised its members to consider forming fishermen's groups, including cooperatives, with credit provided to the groups.

The Philatelic Bureau issued a set of two stamps engraved by Security Bank Note Co. (USA) on October 23, 1952 to mark the occasion.The Milkfish or Bangus (Chanos chanos), an important seafood originally farmed about 800 years ago in the Philippines, is shown on the stamp.
