1961 15th Anniversary of the Philippines Republic

The 15th anniversary of the Philippine Republic was marked by the release of  a set of stamps overprinted in Filipino. The Bureau of Posts chose the 1959 Manila Conference stamps to be overprinted:

1961 Jose Rizal Birth Centennial

The Bureau of Posts issued a set of 4 stamps on June 19, 1961 to mark the birth centennial of National Hero Jose Rizal.

Rizal had been the subject of several stamp issues since the Republic's creation in 1946:

Jose Rizal,  the seventh child of Jose Mercado Rizal and Teodora Alonzo  was born in Kalamba, June 19, 1861.

Rizal studied at the Ateneo Municipal de Manila and at the University of Santo Tomas in the Philippines, completing his studies at Universities in Spain and Germany.

1961 De La Salle College Golden Jubilee

De La Salle College was founded in 1911 by the Brothers of the Christian Schools  offering primary and intermediate programs and a three-year commercial secondary school program. In November 1917, the school was granted a charter authorizing it to confer an Associate in Arts degree. In 1930, the College was authorized to confer the degrees of Bachelor of Science in Education and Master of Science of Education. On February 19, 1975, the College changed its status to a University.


 The Bureau of Posts issued a set of stamps to mark the Golden Jubilee of De La Salle College on June 16, 1961.
