1957 Girl Scout World Camp

In 1957, the Girl Guides held World Camps to mark the centenary of the birth of Lord Baden-Powell, founder of scouting. The Philippine Republic was one of four World Camp sites which included Switzerland, the United Kingdom and Canada.

The Philippine camp was held at San Bartolme, Quezon City from January 19 to February 2, 1957. At the opening ceremony each of the 23 participating countries released a golden arrow, the symbol of friendship.

An attractive lithographed stamp (perf. and imperf.) was printed by the Philippines Bureau of Printing to commemorate Baden-Powell's birth centenary and the Girl Guide World Camp.

Stamps

Although the years 1857 and 1957 are shown on the stamp, there is no reference to Lord Baden-Powell.
