1951 Peace Fund Campaign

From 1946 to 1954, the Philippine government was faced with an insurrection staged by the Hukbalahap (Huk), a guerilla organization based in central Luzon. In September, 1950,  President Quirino issued an Executive Order creating the National Peace Fund Commission to raise funds from nation-wide voluntary contributions to finance a drive for the restoration of peace in the Philippines.

 

A set of three stamps (perforate and imperforate) was issued on March 31, 1951, promoting the Peace Fund Campaign.

1951 Fifth Anniversary of the Philippine Republic

The 5th anniversary of the Republic was marked on July 4, 1951 with the release of a surcharged envelope. The Philatelic Bureau of Printing overprinted the 2c Rizal envelope of 1948 and printed a special cachet in red  on the left side of the envelope.

1951 Universal Declaration of Human Rights

Human Rights Day has been observed by the international community every year since 1950 on December 10th.. It commemorates the day in 1948 the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The Philippine Bureau of Posts issued a set of three stamps to commemorate the Declaration of Human Rights on December 10, 1951.

The stamps were engraved by the American Bank Note Co. and printed in the United States. The Bureau of Posts provided this description of the stamps in its Press Bulletin:

The design of the stamps depicts the story of man`s struggle for freedom since time immemorial - men of different races engaged in the struggle steadily marching towards the goddess of Liberty holding the symbol of justice on her right hand over which the dove of peace hovers low and trailing the scent emited  [sic]  by the lighted torch of freedom held on her outstretched left arm over which hang the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

1951 United Nations Day

United Nations Day, October 24,  marks the anniversary of the entry into force in 1945 of the UN Charter. The Philippines issued a set of three stamps to commemorate United Nations Day, 1951.

The cachet features the United Nations Secretariat building located in Manhattan. The 39 story building houses the Secretariat, an international staff  which carries out the diverse day-to-day work of the Organization.

1951 City of Iloilo Coat of Arms

The City of Iloilo is located on the island of Iloilo in the western Visayas region, about 460 km southeast of Manila.

Iloilo was historically one of the major agricultural centres of the Philippines, exporting sugar, bananas, mangoes and other products during the Spanish and American colonial periods.

August 26 : Anniversary of the "Cry of Balintawak"

The City of Iloia's Coat of Arms stamps were issued on August 26, 1951, the 56th anniversary of the "Cry of Balintawak", the day Andres Bonifacio and his fellow revolutionaries supposedly  tore up their cedulas (residence certificates) protesting Spanish rule and starting the revolution against Spanish authorities.
